Since 2019, IDEA has implemented this project in five Upazilas and from the October 2023 the project has run in Companiganj, Balaganj, and Gowainghat Upazila of Sylhet District funded by USAID & the technical support by TCC.
Objective:
The project aims to strengthen civil society, local government, government service providers, and youth groups in promoting and supporting women’s exercise of the right to access information, and advocate for climate justice. This involves securing rights and facilitating access to materials, resources, and services from responsive public institutions.
Location: Sylhet & Moulavibazar
Main Activities:
- IDEA organized a discussion meeting and rally jointly on ‘Right to Information Day’ with Biswanath, Osmaninagar, Jaintapur, Dakshin Surma Upazilas and Sylhet district administration on September 27, 2023.
- AWRTI had formatted 24 women’s & 3 youth groups at union level with the presence of ward member and elite people to collect information to access government services.
- Capacity-building training on RTI was conducted twice for youth ambassadors.
- Arranged ‘Booth Camp’ at Union level including grassroots women’s, youth ambassadors, and government officials from different government offices.
- Twice Advocacy meetings held with RTI committee members and service provider authorities at the upazila level.
- LGI coordination meetings were held at 6 unions such as Dewanbazar, Paschim Gauripur, Towakul, Nandirgoan, Daskshin Ranikhi & Telikhal. With a nice presentation on the Right to Information Act 2009 and Climate Change the meetings were for the first time.
- October 1, 2023 was the inception ceremony of the AWRTI project at Sylhet Deputy Commissioner’s Office.
