Idea’s daylong workshop held in Sylhet on Internet usage for students
A day-long workshop was held with 50 students from 3 secondary schools of Sylhet district under the initiative of the Institute of Development Affairs (IDEA) in collaboration with the Internet Society.

50 students and 3 teachers from Sylhet Government Agragami Girls High School and College, Syed Hatim Ali High School and Shahjalal Upashahar High School participated in the workshop. The participating teachers were Rezaul Karim, Senior Teacher of Sylhet Government Agragami Girls High School and College, Md. Kajal Mia, Senior Teacher of Shahjalal Upashahar High School and Md. Musa Mia, Assistant Teacher of Syed Hatim Ali High School and College.
The main objective of the workshop was to help secondary school students understand the safety and possibilities of using the internet by creating awareness.
In his speech as the chief guest, A.S.M. Abdul Wadud emphasized on how secondary school students can use the internet to solve their academic subject-based problems and learn skills. He encouraged the students to use the internet positively. He said that it is challenging to survive in the current competitive world without the efficient use and proper knowledge of the Internet, so he requested the teachers present to provide students with as much information as possible about the benefits of the Internet in the classroom. Tofail Ahmed said that students can acquire foreign language skills by using the Internet, which will put them ahead in the job market later.
It is worth noting that before this workshop, IDEA surveyed 50 students from 8th to 10th grade in the three secondary schools about how many hours a day and for what purpose they use the Internet, whether there is any risk or lack of security in using the Internet, whether students use AI or artificial intelligence, for what purpose, and do they think secondary school students use the Internet in their studies? 50% of the students said that they use the Internet for 1-2 hours a day, 20% said that they use the Internet less than 1 hour a day, 20% said that they use the Internet for 3-4 hours a day, and 10% said that they use the Internet for more than 4 hours a day. 100% of students said they have faced risks while using the internet. 80% of students said they use AI or artificial intelligence to help them prepare academic lessons and the remaining 20% said they use AI or artificial intelligence to find relevant national and global information. The workshop was conducted by Sammy Haque, Assistant Director of IDEA, Coordinator Tamanna Ahmed, Director Nazim Ahmed.
