I am very pleased to share our pleasure to host Tahsina Ahmed, a Masters student in the Social Work program at Monmouth University, USA for the next two months in our organization.
MsTahsina Ahmed is currently a second year graduate student at Monmouth University. She is pursuing her master’s degree in Social Work (MSW) with a concentration in International and Community Development. In 2014, Tahsina received her BA in Family and Child Studies and a certification in Child Advocacy from Montclair State University.
Tahsina is a proud Bangladeshi-American. She was born in New Jersey, USA and she currently lives Haledon, NJ with her parents and younger brother. Along with being a full time student, Tahsina is a Councilwoman for the Borough of Haledon. During her free time, Tahsina enjoys spending time with her family and friends, cooking and most importantly, eating.
Monmouth University has partnered with Shahjalal University of Science and Technology, Sylhet and through this agreement, she is interning for IDEA. Tahsina looks forward to learning about how NGOs work in Bangladesh, pecifically around the issues of gender equality and good governance.
We are happy to have Tahsina with us, and we hope she’ll relish her internship in IDEA with success.

I am very pleased to share our gladness to host Shanique McGowan, a Masters student in the Social Work program at Monmouth University, USA for the next two months in our organization.
MsShanique McGowan was born in Jamaica and moved to America with her parents when she was 2 years old. She has lived in New Jersey for most of her life. Shanique enjoys jogging, reading, hiking and spending time with family and friends. Shopping and eating are her favorite pastimes. She is very interested in community development and gender equality in education.
Shaniquegraduated with her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Montclair State University in 2012. She is currently a graduate student in the Master of Social Work program at Monmouth University. Her university is located in New Jersey, USA. She will be graduating in May 2016 with a concentration in International and Community Development.
ShahjalalUniversity of Science and Technology, Sylhet has invited Shanique to Bangladesh to complete her internship hours doing fieldwork with the Institute of Development Affairs (IDEA) in Syhlet, Bangladesh.This is Shanique’s first visit to Bangladesh and she will be staying for two months. Shanique hopes to learn the program development and evaluation strategies of IDEA. She is grateful for this opportunity and is very excited to work with the Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WaSH) program and learn about the social justice issues of the female tea garden workers and their families.
We are excited to have Shaniquewith us, and we hope she’ll enjoy her internship in IDEA with accomplishments.
Institute of Development Affairs-IDEA every year observes International Day in different areas in sylhet division & consequently, it is celebrated this year through EEWB project. To celebrate International language Day 2016Institute of Development Affairsorganized a discussion session on International language day & also organized a quiz competition on history of 21, February; To make remember able the day among student the project team has organized different events such singing song & catching ball, Jumping rope game. About 250 students have observed & enjoy the day by participating different events. All the events have closed by distribution prize to 45 champions who's participating at different events.
Institute of Development Affairs-IDEA has been implementing different project on Rights & Governance with the support of different national & international development partner. SPSRG project one of these working for rights & governance in sylhet. Institute of Development Affairs-IDEA has organized Student Enrolment campaign on 24 Primary Government gchools in Sylhet Sadar Upazila under sylhet division. The main objective of the campaign are ensuring 100% admission, reducing dropout students, awareness building among School management Committee, PTA and guardians. During this campaign there has a discussion meeting on how to decrease student dropout rate. Different type visual materials are used to attractive and bring in important the enrollment issue among guardian. The SMC and PTA & respective teacher are distributed new books & related materials to new admitted students. Teachers are welcomed to all new students in their school by the campaign.
IDEA SCANED project organized a Bus health care camp for Differently Able Person (DAP) in project area at Tuker Bazar & Tultikar union parished under Sylhet Sadar Upazilla, Sylhet. The Camp has inaugurated by UNO of Sylhet Sadar Upazila & also has present Tuker Bazar Union Parishad Chairman, Members & IDEA representative. Differently Able Person of target community will be getting health service such as Eye check up facilities, Ear check up facilities, Physiotherapy, Occupational therapy & advice for better treatment through this Bus health care camp. Respective services will be providing by specific specialist. The camp will remain open from 18-19 January, 2016 at Tuker Bazar Union parshad Courtyard and 20 January, 2016 at Tultikar union parishad with the support of Centre for Disability in Development.
